Top-10 colourful caravans

Brightly coloured models were all the rage at this year's Sydney Supershow

With Australian RV production down for the first three months of 2019, exhibitors at the 2019 NSW Caravan, Camping and Holiday Supershow were pretty keen to entice some of the 50,000-plus visitors at this year’s event to drop by and put down a deposit on a brand-new RV.

One of the more noticeable tricks used by exhibitors at the Supershow was to display a brightly-coloured RV or two near the front of their stand. We're not sure if they were as irresistible to showgoers as a fragrant flower is to a honey bee, but here are some of the more flamboyant examples that caught our eye…

A Wonderland of colour

Campbellfield, Victoria custom builder Wonderland RV pulled out all stops at the Sydney Supershow with not one, but two ostentatious show vans.

Parked together, the 19ft 6in Amaroo Hornet family van with striking glossy red exterior was priced at $90,280, while the lime green 22ft Adventus bunk model was a bit more affordable at $75,940.

To tone down some of the effects of the glow-in-the-dark aluminium composite paneling, both featured extensive black checker plate, black wheels and decals.

Multi-patterned Trakka

Among the Trakka display of around a dozen of its latest, upmarket campervans and motorhomes, none caught the eye quite like this vinyl-wrapped Trakkadu 540 S campervan.

Based on the 150kW twin turbo diesel all-wheel drive Transporter, it was optioned up with metallic paint, diesel heater and electric sliding door for a sticker price of $145,090. Not sure if the sporty decals were extra!

Far Horizon

Not far from the stickered-up Trakka, Horizon’s optioned up Casuarina campervan competed for eyeballs with its startling orange metallic paintwork. The show camper also came with a few extras like Sirocco fan, door flyscreens and Fusion stereo for its $134,500 drive-away pricing.

The striking paintjob certainly made the grey Horizon Wattle we reviewed recently look a bit drab!

Juicy Jayco

Top-selling Aussie RV manufacturer Jayco also embraced the ‘special edition’ theme in Sydney, with a classy version of its entry-level Fiat based campervan.

Offering some Euro-style bling, the Jayco FD.19-1 camper featured metallic blue paint with blue and gold striping, shiny black alloy wheels, and leather upholstery for a show price of $110,380.

Tungsten tough

With a name like Tungsten X-Terrain, you’d expect a few whizz-bang features, and the show-stopper from Hinterland Caravans didn’t disappoint.

Loaded with features, it’s built around a sturdy Supagal chassis and TIG-welded alloy frame, with fiberglass used for the body panels including the floor -- all for a $79,990 show price.

The icing on the cake was the Tiger-like black and yellow exterior panels, and matching black/yellow wheels and display matting, making it hard to miss among the hundreds of vans on display at the Supershow.

Bright Trail

With more than 300 exhibitors at the Sydney Supershow, it can be difficult to stand out especially when you’re a relatively new brand like Trail.

However, it was hard to miss the new Aussie-built 18ft Trail family van, which turned up the heat with bright orange aluminium composite panels for the side walls and roof.

We’re not sure if it enticed any orders, but Trail’s Ed Kammerlocher said the retina-burning caravan did attract the attention of a few potential buyers over the first two days of the show.

Rising Phoenix

As well as being one of the brightest, the deep blue Sunland Phoenix on display in Sydney was also one of the heaviest and most expensive caravans with a 'displayed’ price of $155,650 and ATM of 4200kg.

To help justify the price tag the all fibreglass (inside and out) 21ft 6in off-road van came dripping with equipment including auto airbag suspension, 720W roof mounted solar and a 600Ah lithium battery system, gas heater, air conditioner and 3.5kg washing machine.

Vibrant Volkswagen

Commercial vans have rarely looked as good as the bright red Volkswagen Multivan Black Edition with camping accessories, displayed in Sydney.

If the bright red paintwork and black alloys weren’t enough, the rear kitchen, pull-out awning and iKamper roof-top tent helped pull in a steady stream of onlookers throughout the show.

Racy Dakar

As well as being another bright yellow display model, the latest Vacationer Dakar caravan at the Sydney Supershow took the coloured van theme to another level with matching yellow scrub bars and front toolbox (inside and out)...

Colourful Cub

Since installing a new paint shop at its Sydney factory, Cub Campers has rarely wasted an opportunity to brighten up its display at any of the major caravan shows.

The Sydney Supershow wasn’t any different with a bright red, two pack painted Frontier forward-fold camper taking centre stage on Cub's indoor stand.
