Two, 'time warp' Volkswagen Kombi vintage campervans, including a very desirable 'split window' Kombi camper from the 1960s, are up for grabs at the first online-only Shannons auction to be held in May-June.
The Sydney-based 1967 Volkswagen Kombi Split Window Campervan, is believed to be an Australian-delivered vehicle with an original 38,642 miles on the clock and just two owners from new.
According to Shannons, its "charming period camper conversion, complete with Sixties laminated surfaces, appears to be substantially original and includes a table that converts into a bed and useful storage compartments".
Aussie battery-powered Kombi powers up
In recent years the cream/green Split Window Kombi has benefited from a fresh two-tone paintjob and some mechanical work to its 1.5-litre flat four engine, mated to a four-speed manual gearbox.
With an indicated price range of $50,000-$60,000, Shannons says the '60s camper would be "perfect for a family holiday up the coast or a very solid basis for further restoration,.."
The other 'time warp' camper up for auction is a 1976 T2 VW Kombi with original brown vinyl and black plastic interior trim, along with a professional-camper conversion that includes kitchen sink, cooker, fridge, pop-top roof and dinette that converts to a bed.
Apart from the bright Tangerine paint, other '70s flashbacks include the multi-coloured window curtains, Pioneer cassette stereo and Red Dot dash fan. Power is from a 2.0-litre engine with manual transmission, with a dual battery system and roof racks for the surfboards or kayaks, also fitted.
Shannons says the Melbourne-based Kombi, which has a price range of $22,000-$28,000, "would benefit from some TLC … though it would be a shame to update it too much and lose that fabulous ‘70s vibe".
Bidding for the 2020 Shannons Autumn Timed Online Auction opens on May 20. Click here for further details.
