Thumbs up to new Queensland farm stay

Craig Lowndes' ex-wife opens up 400 acre Queensland cattle property to RV travellers

The sun is shining on grey nomads rushing north for some winter warmth (except for those from Victorian coronavirus hotspots), after Queensland recently reopened its borders to interstate travellers after months of restrictions.

While Queensland is hardly lacking in top-notch caravan park options,  for those on tighter budgets or looking for somewhere new to pull up, a couple of new caravan-friendly bush stays have recently opened up in the Sunshine State.

These include a spacious new bush park near Ipswich, or those seeking a more secluded back-to-nature camping experience can head to a new 'celebrity' farm stay in the picturesque Mount Kilcoy valley. located just over an hour's drive north of Brisbane.

Mount Kilkoy Creek Camp is a new farm stay in Queensland

Natalie Lowndes, the ex-wife of Australian motorsport champion Craig Lowndes, has just opened up her 400 acre cattle property to RV travellers and campers.

Advertised on the Youcamp platform, the Mount Kilcoy Creek Camp only offers seven campsites, although some are big enough to cater for larger groups of up to 30 people.

The cost to stay is from $15 adult (and $5 child) per night, but there are no facilities so you need to be self contained when it comes to power, water, food, showers and toileting.

However, you can bring your dog, and generators and campfires are OK outside of fire restrictions.

"We welcome grey nomads, families and their friendly furry pets, but dogs to be kept on a leash, as we have dogs, cattle and horses," Lowndes said.

Two-wheel drive access is also possible when it's not too muddy, and there's a swimming dam and a shallow creek suitable for young kids. There's also a good chance you'll spot some wildlife including deer, kangaroos and possums, and you'll really be able to switch off with limited mobile phone service.

Lowndes, who has enjoyed camping for many years and currently owns a Queensland-built Kedron TopEnder caravan, regularly hosts friends and family on the property but it's the first time she's invited paid guests to stay.

"Many have asked over the years if we could open up for camping," she said.

"This is our first time listing our paradise on Youcamp... We are pretty selective with campers, only inviting responsible, honest and respectful humans."

Guest reviews have been favourable so far, with Hayley White commenting: "This was our first time booking through YouCamp so we weren’t sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised! The host Nat was great, made us feel very welcome. The spot was amazing, so beautiful and peaceful. Will definitely be back."
