This could be a good time to go camping

Social distancing is best practised in the great outdoors

Update March 23: The Federal Government has now advised not to take unnecessary domestic travel, including during the coming Easter and school holidays. “All non-essential travel should be cancelled,”, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said. Many states including Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia and Northern Territory have already closed their borders to interstate travellers, with quarantine restrictions in place.

You know that one road or camping trip you’ve wanted to take for ages, but there are all those reasons you can’t go – like you don’t have time and you can’t be bothered?

Well, now could be the perfect time.

Maybe you could head to that secluded beach site you've read about, or that caravan park in that tropical town that always seems to be booked out in peak season...

Why not hit the foodies trail and try some world-famous oysters or take the family along to that beautiful hidden waterfall you’ve always wanted to see.

COVID-19 coronavirus fears, social distancing measures, the closure of many public places and events and a nation-wide shortage of toilet paper and bread all signal challenging times ahead. Small businesses recovering from recent bushfires are now copping another battering and need our help more than ever.

So, we say take that camping or caravanning trip. You’ve probably got time. And, it’s something you can do while social distancing. Even if you're working from home or juggling the kids, you could still manage a "sneaky mid-week getaway", as caravan park operator Ingenia Holidays suggested recently.

A bit of self-care and relaxation might help beat the coronavirus isolation blues. And besides, your mates out in whoop-whoop might need some of that toilet paper you’ve been hoarding.

In the meantime, we've listed some suggestions below to help get the travel juices flowing. We do ask this though, please take everything extra you might need with you, and don't expect to be able to purchase essentials at your destination. Residents rely on their local supermarkets for all of their needs.

So, plan ahead, get out of town and look at something else for awhile. These glorious places aren’t going anywhere.
