The Ultimate tiny toy hauler

Three-in-one trailer aimed at thrill-seeking enthusiasts and adventurous campers

Ultimate, the makers of rugged off-road camper trailers, is introducing to the Australian market a unique, compact American-built trailer aimed at outdoor adventurers.

Launched today at the South Coast Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo at Batemans Bay, NSW, the Ultimate Go is a lightweight, three-in-one trailer that morphs from rugged toy hauler to comfortable tent trailer in minutes.

“You can use it like a normal box trailer, and it has a tent arrangement up in the top of it, so you can actually wind the roof of it up and down and carry motorbikes and three wheelers and things like that underneath it, and pushbikes, canoes, and kayaks, on top of it,” said Steve Smith, sales executive at NSW-based Ultimate Campers. “And when you get there you obviously have your accommodation as well.”

The camping configuration features a weather-proof Kelty tent system and a sleeping surface equivalent to a king-and-a-half sized bed.

“The sides, fold down to form two single beds on the outside, and you can have a table in the middle, or you can remove the table and put a double bed in the middle and still have the two outside beds,” Smith explained.

The integrated unit weighs 382kg unloaded and can be pulled by almost any vehicle. It has an all-alloy frame with lockable, polyurethane storage pod at the front and can carry up to 350kg of gear.

In closed trailer mode it measures 3.42m long x 1.88m wide x 1.29m high. The trailer also tilts for loading and unloading.

Built in the USA by SylvanSport, the Ultimate Go is ADR-compliant and is expected to retail for $12,500. Ultimate is currently taking orders with the first shipment expected to arrive in early-2011.

Smith said the Ultimate Go’s versatility and compact, lightweight construction should make it appealing to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts.

“We’re actually going to target the sports adventure people who want to go away kayaking, motorbike riding, pushbike riding,” he said. “It’s also really small and compact so for people in the cities, storage is not going to be a problem.”
