Australia's newest caravan park has hit the ground running, with a 'no vacancy' sign more often than not going up since the Pier Caravan Park Hervey Bay first opened its security gates three months ago.
Developed on the site of an old railway station along Pilot St, Urangan, the new 1800 square metre caravan park in the popular Queensland coastal town officially opened in June this year. On most nights in the first two months the 87 powered grass or slab sites were filled, with the park currently around 80 per cent capacity.
Hervey Bay already caters well for RV travellers, with about 10 caravan parks in the vicinity, some of which are located right along the beach.
The Pier too is ideally located, set back about 400 metres from the beach and the 800m long Urangan fishing pier, as well as walking distance to cafes, restaurants and retail outlets along the busy esplanade.
Like other modern parks built from scratch, many of its powered sites cater to larger rigs including big motorhomes and fifth-wheelers, that often can't squeeze into other parks.
The $1 million park is loaded with modern facilities including a large reception area, upmarket camp kitchen, resort-style swimming pool, BBQ area, kids room, big laundry and modern amenities blocks.
To keep the 'vanners coming through, the Pier park is currently running a 'kids stay free' special during the upcoming school holidays period. The overnight rate for a pet-friendly grass site during this period is $39 for a couple.
