Queensland boat builder enters RV market with new 21ft, two-berth fibreglass caravan
Queensland fibreglass trailerboat specialist The Haines Group has unveiled its first caravan, at this month's Queensland Caravan and Camping show at the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane.
Six months in the making, the 21ft (6.4m) Seachange 640 Elite is built at the same south-east Queensland factory as the 50-year-old manufacturer’s range of Signature, Traveller and Seafarer boats.
According to The Haines Group, a decision was made by management in early-2011 to enter a new market, "where our expertise and existing manufacturing techniques could be easily transferred. The result six months later is Seachange Caravans with the first model, the Seachange 640 Elite, rolling off the production line".
"The 640 Elite was developed through a joint consultation program with caravan dealers," the company continued. "The Haines Group took a market led approach to give the caravan industry and ultimately caravan buyers the product they wanted."
The hybrid aluminium/hot dip galvanised steel chassis, aluminum frame and fibreglass body are manufactured at the company's Wacol, Queensland factory, as are other major items including upholstery, cabinetry, and shower cubicle.
Other items have been sourced from proven RV suppliers, including the Cruisemaster tandem coil independent suspension.
The two-berth 640 Elite is 2.45m wide, 3.8m high and 8.35m long overall. It has a Tare of 2400kg, an ATM of 3000kg and towball weight of 120kg.
The interior features gloss white walls and ceiling, laminate benchtops and timber cabinetry, with a queen size innerspring bed at one end and full ensuite with porcelain hand basin and toilet at the other.
The kitchen has a 194 litre three-way fridge/freezer, four burner cooktop/grill, 12V rangehood and microwave, and there's a trifold table with cafe-style bench seating for four.
Other standard features include reverse cycle air-conditioning, gas/electric hot water, Dometic double glazed windows, 12V 22inch TV/DVD with Winegard aerial, radio/CD player with internal and external speakers, LED lighting, 120aH AGM battery and 25amp charger, 250 litre fresh water tank and roll-out awning.
