We know the popular Tesla Model Y EV can function as a half-decent tow vehicle, but now a New Zealand start-up is offering owners a more convenient way to camp in the back of their battery-powered compact cross-over vehicle.
The new Teraglide Trunk Sliding Camping Bed for the Tesla Model Y is described as a premium camping bed that's both designed and made in New Zealand.
It's built to last with birch plywood construction finished with a soft-to-touch transparent protective film, and the makers claim installation only takes a few minutes. As well as storage space under the lift-up, slatted bed base there's also a couple of slide-out drawers and tabletops for roadside stops.
The Teraglide is the brainchild of a young Auckland couple who wanted to sleep in the back of their Tesla Model Y while still being able to access items from the hidden trunk when a mattress was spread out, as well as conveniently store other items in the back.
The Teraglide Trunk Sliding Camping Bed is priced from NZD$1400 (around AUD$1300), with a purpose-built self-inflating memory foam mattress also available from NZD$290. The 190 x 132 (92) x 6cm mattress weighs 3kg and rolls up when not in use.
