Tesla Cybertruck camper pops up

A pop-top camping pod for the Tesla Cybertruck has been revealed, with a water tank, heating and mini bathroom to make your weekend camping adventures eco-friendly.

The slick pop-up camper designed specifically for the much-anticipated all-electric pick-up was displayed in prototype form – albeit online – sporting a fold-away design and almost as much gear as a proper full-size camper.

However, unlike the electric pick-up it’s designed to suit, the Cyberlandr camper is still far from a reality with production yet to get underway. Even still, there’s a lot to like about this concept, which features luxurious additions including a 32-inch Smart TV, heating and cooling and even a “spa-inspired bathroom”.

Built by Las Vegas-based company Stream It and made specially to fit into the tub of the five-seat dual-cab Cybertruck – which is tipped to be one of the most capable electric utes when it arrives – the Cyberlandr is said to bring its own battery and water tank, among other things.

On-board, adventurers will enjoy a pair of lounge chairs that fold-out to a “RV queen” size bed, which is a little shorter in length than the average queen mattress, along with surround sound audio that links to the Smart TV and a chef’s kitchen, featuring a tri-level sink, a smart tap with voice control and an invisible induction cooktop.

The spa-inspired bathroom features a radiant-heated porcelain one-piece tile floor, while the shower head brings five flow patterns, a recirculating shower with four-stage filter which allows ‘for longer showers without running out of water’ and a dry flush toilet with a self-cleaning bowl.

And, if you need to work on the road, there’s an in-built corner office with wi-fi and high-speed internet, while the 32-inch TV can be used as a second monitor.

During travel – to and from camp sites for example – the Cyberlandr ‘vault’ will compress entirely, meaning other items (such as sporting equipment) will need to be stored elsewhere. Because of its compact fit however, Cyberlandr says low profile trailers or swing-over vault attachments will still work.

Pricing for the removable camper unit starts from $US39,995 ($55k AUD), with the fledgling company saying more than 1000 units have already been reserved.  

However, production for the pop-up accessory is yet to begin, with information on the US company’s site saying it anticipates the Cyberlandr “will be ready for delivery approximately when Tesla begins producing and shipping Cybertruck to its list of reserved purchasers”.

When not in use, the 544kg Cyberlandr can be removed and moved around with a provided dolly and can be stored indoors or outdoors.

That said, the company says it plans to install most customers’ units, with the factory set to be located “just down the street” from Tesla’s Texas Giga factory.

There’s no word yet on whether this cool camper will be offered Down Under – but we can only hope.

As it stands, Tesla’s first pick-up truck has faced several delays and isn’t set to enter production until late 2022, before it hits Australia as late as 2025. For now though, the closest Aussies can get to Cybertruck ownership is via this Hot Wheel RC scale model which is available at Target.
