One of Australia’s biggest manufacturers of motorhomes is launching its first range of caravans.
Queensland-based Talvor Motorhomes has begun production of a new, three-model range of caravans at a new factory opposite the company’s existing production facility in Northgate, Queensland.
Although details are sketchy at the moment with only two computer-generated images released to the media the range, which includes 5.5m, 6.5m and 7.5m long caravans, will be pitched at the premium end of the market and is the result of 18 months research and development.
According to Talvor, the new range “brings together the latest in 3D design technology, a comprehensive review of current best practice in caravan production and the best available construction materials”.
“In the early stages we made a decision to move away from a traditional ‘stick and tin’ construction method,” said Talvor Executive General Manager of Operations, Paul Truman. “After considerable research it was concluded that a moulded composite construction would increase strength, improve insulation and also represent the latest in contemporary styling.”
Talvor has been supplying motorhomes under the Apollo banner for 25 years, and says it drew on its extensive experience building rental vehicles for Australia’s harsh conditions during the design phase.
“The toughness we build into our RVs to withstand the rigours of rental life was something that we were determined to incorporate into our caravans from the outset,” said Talvor CEO Luke Trouchet.
Towards that end the caravans “utilise a more traditional galvanised steel chassis over the most contemporary materials available”.
The Talvor vans are expected to be sold at the five existing Talvor dealerships in Australia, although additional dealerships could be added for the caravan range.
“There has always been demand for us to get into the caravans, and the caravan market from all statistical points of view is 10 times the size of the motorhome market, so it’s probably a logical progression,” said Talvor marketing manager John Melenewycz. “And given the success of Apollo motorhomes in the marketplace, it’s just another extension of the business.”
The first prototypes will be durability tested shortly with final production versions expected to go on sale in early 2011.
Further details, final specifications and pricing are expected to be announced shortly.
