NSW’s Airstream Adventures introduces five-star glamping experiences in custom-built American caravansEver wanted to spend a few nights in an iconic Airstream travel trailer? Or dreamed of heading off down the highway with a polished aluminium ‘silver bullet' in tow, for a holiday to remember?
Well, now the dream can become a reality with a new NSW business offering upmarket camping experiences in a range of US-built but Australian compliant Airstream caravans.
The brainchild of travel enthusiasts Kat Ayrton and Daniel Damiano Airstream Adventures is, according to the website “dedicated to delivering luxury 'glamping' experiences across Australia in the latest Airstreams - custom built for Australia - giving discerning travelers a unique, stylish and fun way to explore the country”.
Sourced from local importer Airstream Australia, the fleet currently includes the latest Sport 579 and bigger 762 International model, with plans to add a 624 International model.
The vans can sleep up to five people and come with all the designer trimmings and luxury equipment expected in an Airstream caravan priced from $90,000, as well as a few extras such as lanterns and flashlights, a generator, kitchen supplies, picnic basket and a selection of games.
However, unlike more conventional RV rental arrangements the hirers don't do all the towing themselves. Instead, the company offers two, five-star options: “pop-up campsites” where the van is delivered for them to a designated campsite, or a “chauffeur driven” option where you pay for a driver and tour guide and don't have do any driving at all.
As a result, it's not exactly cheap, with ‘pop-up' rates ranging from $695 to $895 per day, or from $1275-$1475 per day for the ‘chauffeur' option.
Customers have to provide a bond of up to $5000, and there's a minimum rental period of three nights (or seven nights in the peak Christmas period). They also have to supply the tow vehicle when choosing the ‘pop-up' option.
Other services including catering, activities, tents, and an airport ‘meet & greet' are also available, while the Airstream vans can also be hired for special events including weddings and film shoots.
