A funky new cross-over camper from one of the UK’s biggest caravan manufacturers is set to go on sale down under in 2017.
Recently released in the UK the Swift Basecamp features familiar Swift features like a curved front panoramic window and ‘Smart Plus’ timber-free construction. However, distinctive design elements including chunky graphite moulding, chrome grab handles, and the availability of 13 eye-catching exterior graphic packages, are designed to appeal to ‘young at heart’ buyers. Swift is also targeting people with smaller tow vehicles, with a fully-loaded weight of less than one tonne for the single-axle model which has an internal length of 3.42m. However, at 2.28m wide and 5.1m long overall, the full height, rear door caravan is compact but it's not lacking in standard features.
A versatile floorspace includes floor-mounted tie-down points to secure items like bikes in transit. The club lounge/dinette at the front has a table and bench seats that either fold away or can be converted to two single beds or a 1.98m x 1.93m double bed.
The interior also includes a small kitchen with three burner gas cooker, 85 litre fridge and sink with hot water, as well as a combination shower/toilet.
The funky design elements continue inside with the graphite and burnt orange décor, ‘Fenix NTM’ scratch-free benchtops, pleated window blinds, removable canvas zip storage bags and a pop-up docking station for plugging in portable electronic devices.
Also standard in the Basecamp is an air heater as well as the
latest Swift Command system allowing remote, mobile phone control of appliances.
Other equipment including a fold-away TV bracket, oven, external shower and rear tent with ‘Airbeam’ technology, is available as part of an optional ‘Plus Pack’.
Exact specifications including pricing of Australian-delivered models are still to be finalised, but with a starting price of around £15,000 in the UK, the Basecamp is likely to cost at least $40,000 when it goes on sale here.
“Following an exceptional start at the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon and at the annual Birmingham NEC UK caravan show we are very excited to be bringing the all new crossover Swift Basecamp to Australia in 2017,” Swift Australia boss Alex Kammerlocher said.
Swift Australia is hoping to have a Basecamp on display at the NSW Caravan, Camping and Holiday Supershow at Rosehill Racecourse from April 25-30.
