How much of a discount would you expect for an otherwise ship shape, premium off-road camper that’s clocked 35,000km during a whirlwind ‘round-Oz promotional tour?
For the Sunrise program’s famous ‘Lap of the Map’ Track Trailer Tvan and the man who cast the winning bid in the recent online auction, the savings amounted to $11,000, or a whopping 20 per cent off its ‘as new’ $50,000 price.
Wagga Wagga, NSW (and soon to be Brisbane) resident, Chris Pook, posted the $39,000 winning bid during the six-day auction, which was hosted by Caravancampingsales’ sister site, Quicksales in late-October.
Track Trailer marketing manager Lloyd Waldron said Pook is a “lucky man” that "snagged a terrific deal", as the well-equipped Tvan was expected to reach at least $45,000. It had a reserve price of $35,000.
All proceeds from the auction were donated equally to the Buy a Bale and Born to Run charities.
Pook and his family will be officially presented with the ‘Lap of the Map’ Tvan at 1pm, December 12 during a Track Trailer open day at its new Outback HQ retail facility in Bayswater, Melbourne.
Free to the public, the open day will also feature special deals, factory tours and discussions with experts from some of the leading brands associated with Track Trailer including ARB, Safari Snorkels and C.E. Bartlett, the Ballarat, Victoria-based company behind the dynaproofed canvas on TT trailers.
Other highlights include a free BBQ from 12pm and a display of one of Track Trailer’s early military trailers hooked up to an ex-Army truck.
