Sunliner cleans up opposition

Latest Isuzu-based Monte Carlo comes with four slide-outs plus built-in vacuum cleaner

You know you’re at the serious end of the motorhome market when you’re looking at a model with four slide-outs and a built-in vacuum cleaner…

On display at this year’s Victorian Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow, the aptly named Monte Carlo from Melbourne’s Sunliner has been updated for 2016 and now comes in four, lavish layouts with prices starting from $297,997.

The 9.5m long Supershow model on display was powered by a 139kW/510Nm 5.2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine from the Isuzu NQR 450 truck.

Sunliner’s managing director Nick Hunter said it’s the first time in years the flagship Monte Carlo has been available with the bigger Isuzu truck that allows the addition of four separate slides for the lounge and dinette up front, as well as rear, island bed and side wardrobe.

“It just opens up the motorhome and gives you a lot of space. You could also put a coffee table (in front of the lounge) in here if you wanted to,” Hunter said.

The premium new look extends to liberal use of glossy, hardwood finishes and stitched ultra-leather upholstery.

“We’ve gone back to our classic finish, more of a prestige look with the hardwood features and curved panels, and the baseball stitched panels,” he said.

As well a built-in Dyson vacuum cleaner and pod coffee machine, the Monte Carlo also comes with a new, slide-out arm for the large screen TV that utilizes the space behind the rear passenger when not in use.

There’s also a new tri-fold Japanese-style timber and glass door that allows some privacy around a ‘powder room’ next to the shower while still allowing access to and from the bedroom.

Aimed at the "discerning traveller" and "fitted to the highest standard of uncompromised luxury", the four slider Monte Carlo also comes with two ensuite areas with their own ceramic wash basins, including a bathroom with toilet and washing machine.

With a drive-away price of $309,892, the four-berth display model had a long list of features including air-conditioning and gas central heating, internal and external kitchens including a Weber BBQ, 250 litre fresh water capacity, hands-free Bluetooth lighting, 3000W inverter and generator, and power awning and entry step.

Don’t expect to see too many on the road!
