Big-ticket Suncamper Conqueror 3.0 arrives

New $300K Ford Ranger Super Duty off-grid motorhome goes on sale at Sydney Supershow

Cashed-up Aussie hardcore adventurers have another swish locally-built Ford Ranger Super Duty based motorhome to choose from, with Sydney's Suncamper taking the wraps of its new $299,000-plus Conqueror 3.0 luxury ute-based, off-grid camper at this year's NSW Caravan Supershow.

Like the Queensland-built Explorer Nomad Super Duty unveiled last month, the range-topping new Suncamper 4x4 camper is based on the towing and load lugging 'hero' ute of the moment; the Ford Ranger Super Duty single cab powered by a 154kW/600Nm 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6.

Suncamper's new range-topper continues the 49-year old motorhome specialist's evolution of its core Sherwood Series ute-based motorhomes, which it's been offering in various guises for many years.

Clean-sheet design

Suncamper boss Cameron Harrison said he and his team worked closely with Ford Australia over the past 12 months to seamlessly integrate existing factory electrics like the 360 degree camera and radar sensors, with the motorhome build. It also got feedback from 100-plus 4x4 customers on what they most wanted in a range-topping offroad motorhome.

"The way we developed the cab to go onto it; all the (Super Duty) safety features, none of it has been compromised throughout the build," Harrison told caravancampingsales.

The Suncamper team also made good use of the Super Duty's wider track to deliver a more spacious and user-friendly off-road motorhome body.

"This whole layout was made especially for the Super Duty," explained Suncamper's Head of Marketing, Connor Jones.

"As the Super Duty has a wider track, we've been able to offer 20cm more internal width (than the Ranger-based Conqueror 2.0)."

The all-new layout includes the option of three different bed set-ups up front (east-west queen, north south singles or a north-south queen bed with extension as fitted to the display vehicle).

There's a 3-in-1 convection microwave with grille and air fryer, stored in a slide-out in the galley kitchen, along with a sink and tap, induction cooktop, and 150L fridge, with a second portable induction cooktop that can be used outside, and the option to add a 50L drawer fridge in the slide-out pantry near the entry door.

The new layout also gets a comfy L-shaped lounge/dinette, with an iPad Pro tablet (that also doubles as a TV) located nearby that's also linked to a full Starlink system with high performance dish.

There's a choice of either cassette or compost toilet in the full width rear bathroom with separate shower, with decent storage throughout including an under-seat 'tunnel' area accessible from outside, that's big enough to carry a surfboard inside.

Big off-grid power system

The Conqueror 3.0 is also fully set up for independent Outback travel with a 600Ah Victron lithium battery system with 850W rooftop solar and a 3000W inverter as standard, with the option to boost that to 900Ah lithium, 1020W solar and a 5000W inverter.

It also gets the latest Autoterm 240V/diesel hot water and air heater unit, and 140L fresh, 80L drinking, and 43L grey water tanks. Buyers also have the option to relocate the underbody mounted spare tyre to the rear wall and add extra water (95L) and a long-range fuel tank underneath.

A CB radio, rooftop air conditioner and double-locking internal cabinetry are also included, as is brush bar protection, a roll-out awning, exterior spot and utility lights, and an outside shower and picnic table.

Like the Conqueror 2.0, the new Super Duty Conqueror only gets a small crawl space from the driver's cabin to the rear living space, while the full width ensuite precludes fitment of a larger rear window for extra internal light and ventilation.

The road ahead

A 4500kg GVM and a kerb weight of around 3700kg delivers a circa 800kg payload, while the Conqueror 3.0 should be capable of towing a caravan or trailerboat weighing up to 4200kg or so, GCM permitting.

The 5.8m long x 2.3m wide x 3.35m high, option-free show vehicle displayed driveaway pricing of $314,750. Production is expected to start later this year.
