Sydney’s Suncamper Motorhomes has released a new hardcore off-road version of its popular Toyota HiLux-based Sherwood campervan.
The range-topping Sherwood 4x4 Conqueror is “designed for the ultimate adventure,” according to the 43-year-old manufacturer, with a host of off-road upgrades and off-grid extras designed to get owners further and longer off the beaten track than other Sherwood 4x4 versions.
Based on the latest Toyota HiLux SR 4x4 model with 2.8-litre turbo-diesel and manual or auto gearbox, the Sherwood Conqueror looks the part with a number of black matte accessories fitted including a bonnet scoop, Toyota TRD grille and winch-compatible alloy bull bar with LED lightbar, six mud terrain tyres on 17in black alloys, a snorkel, underbody bash plates, Raptor paint protection, roof-mounted brush bars with four spotlights, additional lightbar and roof racks.
Other Conqueror standard features include a UHF radio and HEMA GPS, a large external storage hatch, rear camera and tyre pressure monitor, 140 litre fuel tank, two 4kg gas bottles and a gas bayonet.
Remote area camping features include a 120Ah lithium battery system with 2000W inverter and 405W rooftop solar, and 158 litre freshwater and 62 litre grey water tanks.
Also part of the Conqueror package is a roll-out awning, electric entry step and a 1500kg tow bar so you can drag a small camper trailer or trailerboat into the Outback.
Like the Sherwood E-Series model it’s based on, the Conqueror features a four-berth layout including above-cab queen bed, kitchenette, combination shower/toilet and U-shape rear club lounge/dinette.
Interior-wise, the Conqueror’s “fresh and modern interior” stands out with an enamel black sink and tap with separate filtered water, stone bench-tops, black glass two-burner gas stove, black leather upholstery, timber-look cabinetry and mood lighting.
Other interior features include a skylight hatch, diesel space heater, 12V fan, compressor fridge and LCD TV.
“As one of Australia’s largest off-road motorhome manufacturers, we are pleased to launch the latest and greatest 4×4 motorhome, allowing you to travel further and see more,” Suncamper owner Keith Harrison said.
The off-road campervan measures 5850mm long, 2100mm wide and 3000mm high, and has a Tare weight of 3140kg and 3620kg GVM.
Suncamper has not announced pricing but we’re guessing north of $150,000. The Sydney factory is currently taking orders for delivery from around March 2021.
