Motorhome specialist Suncamper is the latest Australian RV manufacturer to introduce a retro-style teardrop camper.
Unveiled at this year’s NSW Caravan, Camping and Holiday Supershow alongside the company's new range-topping Santa Cruz, the new Smidge campers deliver minimalist camping with just enough room inside the 2.8m long x 1.7m wide body for two adults to sleep or kick back and relax.
Tare weight is around 580kg depending on options fitted, with the ball weight as low as 30kg and a payload of 420kg.
The Smidge rides on a painted steel chassis with leaf spring suspension, electric brakes and a 50mm ball hitch. Body panels are insulated fibreglass panels with a marine ply floor.
European birch plywood is used for the interior and kitchen cabinetry, with the timber treated with an environmentally-friendly hard organic wax oil coating.
The 1590mm x 1860mm high density foam mattress folds up inside to provide a day bed-style backrest.
Exterior features include awning lights on both sides and a roof hatch, while inside there are screens and block out curtains for the sliding windows and hatch, along with LED reading lights and a Bluetooth radio with exterior speakers.
The Smidge 'Drop' model on display in Sydney was also fitted with a 120Ah battery and monitor, USB points, wind-down stabilizer legs, jockey wheel, and hand brake, while a solar panel and regulator is also available.
The rear lift-up kitchen had storage drawers along with a 60 litre 12V fridge and two burner stove with grille, while the stainless steel sink and tap draws water through a 12V pump from the 80 litre tank.
The Smidge camper is available in three equipment grades, with the ‘Drop’ model on display at the Supershow priced at $26,990.
The Smidge isn’t the first trailerable RV to be offered by the 42-year-old motorhome specialist, following the Entrada caravan range introduced in 2015.
