Sydney's Suncamper has added a new model to its Sherwood camper range, the Sherwood S-Series.
Revealed at the 2018 Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow at Rosehill, Sydney, the new S-Series is based on the Sherwood 4X4 E-Series, which we tested last year.
However, the S-Series features a completely new layout and in a first for the 4X4 Sherwood range, the entry door is at the rear nearside of the camper. Also new for the Sherwood series, the fit-out has a L-shaped lounge and a double bed that can convert to two singles.
As it was an all-new design, it also gave Suncamper the opportunity to incorporate two new products from Thetford: a 141-litre fridge-freezer and a combined cooktop/sink.
The cooktop is a three-burner unit with a glass top for the burners and another for the single-bowl sink. The cooktop and sink being in the one compact unit is a key point of difference with the S-Series and the E-Series; the E-Series’ sink is on its own bench on the opposite side of the layout from the cooktop.
The new model has a versatile bed arrangement, with the ability to convert the east-west double bed into two north-south singles. As Suncamper General Manager Cameron Harrison pointed out, the singles are not quite full-length beds.
As with the E-Series, the shower/toilet is on the offside of the camper.
While the features list is much the same as the E-Series, the S-Series has some unique design elements. Aside from the interior changes, the S-Series also has a tunnel boot at the rear, so storage access is available at both side of the camper for the first time.
The new layout was the result of customer feedback.
The Suncamper Sherwood 4X4 S-Series has the same weight and dimensions as the E-Series (2680kg Tare weight, 5800mm length, 2100mm width and 3250mm height) and also like the E-Series is based on the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel Toyota HiLux SR 4x4.
While water provisions are also identical (86-litre fresh water capacity and 43 litre grey water), the new 141-litre fridge capacity is a substantial increase from the E-Series’ 90-litre unit.
The base price for the Sherwood S-Series is $144,100 (drive away), which is $3000 more than the E-Series starting price.
The display unit at Rosehill however had numerous options fitted, such as automatic transmission, upgraded wheels and tyres, bullbar, snorkel, suspension upgrade, outside table, additional reading lights, external gas bayonet, Fiamma turbo hatch, Sirocco fan, upgrade black checker plate and trim, 200watt solar system, reversing camera and sky hatch with lights. boosting the drive-away price to $163,130.
