"Stuff that!" Struggling caravan parks get creative

Victorian park operator dares you to discover the magic of 'wintry pleasures' with three-for-two offer

With the double whammy of cooler days down south, and the impact of the fuel crisis, caravan park operators are getting creative when it comes to trying to persuade caravanners to buckle up, book a site and get out there...

One of the more ingenious campaigns at the moment comes courtesy of Barwon Coast Caravan Parks which operates three parks on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula; a bustling beachside playground in summer but an often chilly, desolate and exposed stretch in the winter months not particularly conducive to camping.

Big freeze

The park operator's 'Who Dares, Winters' TVC is a cheeky invitation to head down and enjoy the "magnificent" emptiness of a coastline currently devoid of "cabana carrying masses".

It's also encouraging "bold souls" to put down their smart phone, get out of their comfort zone and enjoy "unspoilt views" from the campsite or a "rugged up ramble" on the picturesque 13th Beach, with the young hero delivering the defiant catchline "Stuff that!"

Beat the crowds

As well as operating the Barwon Heads, Breamlea and Riverview parks, the Barwon Coast non-profit organisation is responsible for looking after 22km of coastline along Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula.

“The Bellarine Peninsula really comes to life in winter, but the majority of visitors don’t get to see it this way," explained Barwon Coast's Marketing and Engagement Manager, Pru Farrer.

"There’s so much to see and do down here – beaches, walks, spas, wineries, amazing local businesses, and the fact that everything is quiet in winter makes all of those things better. I’m biased, but I don’t think you’ll find a better spot for a winter break in Victoria.”

To further encourage people to brave the wintry chill, Barwon Coast Caravan Parks is offering a three-for-two accommodation offer, as well as permitting dogs and campfires at selected sites over the winter period.
