The pressure on Australian caravan manufacturers from rising numbers of budget-priced imported models continues, with Stoney Creek Campers recently launching its first on-road caravan range.
The Queensland-based RV brand already offers a number of off-road caravans and hybrids, but now it's released a new Somerset fixed-roof touring range with sharp sub-$70,000 pricing -- available initially in 15ft and 17ft body lengths with well-equipped couple ensuite layouts, and built using the same Gen 3 composite body construction as the off-roaders.
The entry-level Somerset 15 is described as "a compact, clever tourer", while the larger Somerset 17 delivers "spacious indulgence," with a bit more interior room and extra features like a built-in washing machine.
Standard features across the range include a a hot-dipped galvanised steel chassis, 50mm ball hitch and 12in electric drum brakes, torsion axle suspension, a rooftop air conditioner, 230Ah lithium battery, 2000W inverter and 450W rooftop solar, a queen memory foam mattress, electric entry step, separate shower and toilet, gas instant hot water, 152L internal fridge, external slide-out kitchen, a 24in TV, continuous gas hot water, a roll-out awning and 200L fresh and 75L grey water tanks.
Options includes an annexe, diesel heater and BBQ arm, while each model carries RVMAP accreditation.
“Customer feedback has always been clear — Australians want the highest quality build with the latest innovations, without compromising on value,” said Stoney Creek Campers' General Manager Andrew Tomac.
“The design of the Somerset range set out to achieve exactly that. With advanced composite materials, premium fit-out, and a market-leading price point, we’re confident we’ve delivered on every objective. We’re hugely excited by what this new range brings to our customers.”
With an approximate 1780kg Tare and 2500kg ATM, the new Somerset 15 is priced at RRP$63,990 driveaway, while the 1925kg Tare/2500kg ATM, Somerset 17 has RRP$65,990 driveaway pricing.
Both new models are available at Stoney Creek showrooms around the country, with more models expected to join the range in the future.
