Spinifex unveils electrifying new caravan

Queensland custom off-road specialist Spinifex has joined a growing list of Australian caravan manufacturers to adopt the ground-breaking OzXCorp 48V 'limitless power' RV system.

Spinifex displayed its latest gas-free, tandem axle 19ft 6in Electrex Premier off-road caravan at the 2022 Queensland Caravan Supershow, fitted with the OzXCorp-developed NCE DCX Power Platform featuring four 430 Watt Sunpower commercial-grade rooftop solar panels feeding into a 14.3kWh chassis-mounted lithium battery pack with a 5000 watt Smart inverter.

It's enough off-grid power to run simultaneously and for extended periods, many of the van's domestic appliances including inside and outside Westinghouse portable induction cookers, a Weber Pulse 1000 BBQ, Electrolux 90cm multifunction pyrolytic oven, 190 litre compressor fridge/freezer, 3.0kg wall-mounted washing machine and the satellite dish hooked up to a Foxtel set-top box and a couple of big screen TVs.

Spinifex Caravans' sales manager Mark Evans said the new full off-road, off-grid van is based on Spinifex's Nomadix Premier model, and can be ordered in a range of body lengths from 16ft to 26ft.

A Truma diesel combination unit takes care of water and space heating, but he said buyers hesitant to go 'all-electric' can still opt for a combination of gas and electric powered appliances.

"We understand that gas is still going to be around for a long time so we're certainly not taking gas out of all of our caravans," explained Evans.

"This one is called the Electrex so it's purely an electric model but there's also our Nomadix Premier spec where we use the smaller 7.1kWh OzCorp with a combination of gas and electric, or buyers can choose to upgrade to a gas free set-up with the induction cooktop, etc."

The Electrex display van was also fitted with Cruisemaster's XT airbag suspension and a 4500kg-rated DO-45 coupling, 12in hydraulic disc brakes, plus 17in alloy wheels with BF Goodrich off-road tyres.

The aluminium framed/fibreglass bodied 'van boasts a hot dipped galvanised chassis and one-piece composite floor, together with other wanted features like a slide-out external kitchen, full width roll-out awning, and a front stone guard and some black checker plate and a powedercoated aluminium 'armour plate' finish for external protection.

The luxury couple's layout included a front north-south queen bed, leather covered cafe dinette, well-equipped kitchen and a full width rear ensuite with separate shower and toilet.

With build slots now stretching out to November 2023, pricing for the '2024 model' Spinifex Electrex starts at $202,500, with the optioned up display van advertised at $210,200.

It's not the Queensland manufacturer's first 'gas free' van, with the Deception Bay-based company custom-building a 24ft Spinifex Nomadix Premier using a Safiery 48V set-up last year.
