Special edition black beauties

Two premium off-road RV brands have given their range-topping campers the limited edition black treatment at this week's Queensland caravan show

It's not that uncommon for car manufacturers to introduce special limited edition ‘Black’ versions of their star models, with Porsche, FPV and HSV all getting in on the act in recent times.

Now two premium off-road camper trailer manufacturers are following suit, with special editions of their range-topping hard-floor campers getting the 'Black' treatment.

Queensland-based Australian Off Road Campers has released the Odyssey Elite Limited Edition that comes with unique features including a satin black powder coated chassis and body, silver alloy storage rack, front mounted firewood rack, upgraded dual EFS off-road shocks, a second 83 litre water tank (277 litres in total), and individually numbered plaque.

The upgraded features come on top of the already extensive equipment list of the Odyssey Export-Signature model, which include a 14 litre hot water system, 82 litre EvaKool fridge/freezer, inner spring Queen mattress, 120W portable solar panel, 150W inverter, Ezy Overnight Awning and Tropical roof.

Only 12 of the Elite Limited Edition models will be available at the Queensland Caravan & Camping Show, priced at $53,500 including on-road costs.

Meanwhile, NSW-based Kimberley Kampers has come up with the all-black Platinum Xtreme, which comes with extra features including glossy, two pack painted graphite grey body, Fusion media centre, special alloy wheels, 12V interior fan, tropical roof, and a five year extended warranty on the chassis and suspension.

These features are on top of the standard Platinum camper features which include a 75 litre Eutectic fridge, diesel hot water system, 120 litre water tank, 200 amp battery pack, 35 amp Intelli-charger, 600W inverter, and Kwik awning and front wall.

The Platinum Xtreme is described as a "limited period special", priced at $53,000 tow-away.

While both models displayed at the Queensland show featured menacing black colour schemes, other colours are available.

Kimberley will match the paint of your tow vehicle if desired, while Australian Off Road Campers also offer charcoal, silver and white if you don’t like the satin black.

The Queensland Caravan, Camping & Touring Holiday Show is on at the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane until June 14.
