Last year it was the vintage caravans. This year an entertainment area just for kids is one of the major drawcards at the South Australian Caravan & Camping Expo, which kicks off next week.
While mum and dad debate the merits of a 3kg washing machine over extra cupboard space in the rear ensuite, the kids can escape boredom by heading to the Big4 Camping Kids Zone at the annual Adelaide show.
Open on two days (Saturday and Sunday) of the five day show and located at the southern end of Hamilton Boulevard, the kids’ zone will include a range of activities designed to get the young ones “excited about enjoying our great outdoors”.
All participants will be given a special lanyard and encouraged to ‘tick off’ as many activities as possible in order to ‘graduate’ and receive a special certificate. Graduates will then have the chance to win a kids’ camping package.
Other family entertainment will include performances by the Amazing Drumming Monkeys and Ticklish Allsorts on the Jayco main stage, as well as free Ferris wheel rides.
The biggest kids will also get a chance to share the spoils, with an $18,000 Eagle camper trailer and other prizes including a Sar Major swag and beach shade up for grabs in a Facebook competition.
More than 200 exhibitors are expected to display their wares at the long-running South Australian show, showcasing some of the latest RVs and accessories as well as holiday destinations.
Seminars will run throughout the show on a range of topics, from working your way around Australia to how to tow safely, and organizers are expecting around 30,000 people to flow through the turnstiles.
As well as street food vans, an Annexe Bar will also be set up so show-goers can enjoy a refreshment while dreaming of their next holiday.
The Adelaide show runs 10am-5pm daily, from February 19-23 at the Wayville Showground. Tickets for entry (adults cost $15) and car parking ($8) can be pre-purchased on-line on the show website.
