Sneak peek of big Jeep

Left-hooker 2011 Grand Cherokee put through its paces ahead of Australian launch

More than 900 Jeep enthusiasts got the chance to have a sneak peek of the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the recent National Jeep Jamboree.

The range-topping Jeep was put through its paces several months ahead of its Australian launch, and ‘Jambo’ attendees had the opportunity to witness a left-hand drive, overseas-specification Grand Cherokee Laredo in action on the challenging 4WD test track at Lardner Park in Victoria.

The Grand Cherokee showcased some of its increased off-road capabilities via electronic technology fitted including Hill Descent Control (HDC) and the new Selec-Terrain system that boasts five settings – auto, mud/sand, rock, snow and sport – to cope with varied conditions.

The new Quadra-Lift air suspension system will be available on selected models, providing up to an additional 105mm lift span either automatically or manually via console controls.

Although it didn’t win any prizes the new Grand Cherokee also joined the Jeep Jamboree’s Show `n Shine where spectators got the chance to explore up close the new exterior and interior look.

Externally, the updated front end incorporating slim headlights, shorter overhangs front and rear, and sleeker profile give the big Jeep a more modern, purposeful stance, while luxury refinements inside add to the contemporary feel.

Under the bonnet, the Grand Cherokee will be fitted standard with the new 210kW/347Nm Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 engine, or optional 259kW/520Nm 5.7-litre Hemi V8 featuring four-cylinder-mode fuel-saving technology.

Full specification and pricing will be released closer to the Australian launch date around February 2011.
