Silhouette camper trailer returns

Perth’s Fleetwood RV re-enters competitive wind-up camper market with tough new off-road model
Melbourne show-goers will get their first close-up look at the new Windsor Silhouette off-road camper when it goes on display at this week's Melbourne Leisurefest at Sandown Racecourse.
The aggressive-looking camper fills a gap in Fleetwood RV’s entry-level Windsor and Coromal ranges, after the axing of the cut-price, Chinese-built Coromal Navigator camper about 18 months ago.
Its introduction also coincides with the release of New Age’s first wind-up camper, in a popular market segment currently dominated by Jayco.
Initially only available in off-road spec, the Windsor Silhouette has a starting RRP of $39,990 and features an aluminium roof and sandwich panel walls.
It will be offered in various exterior colours, including the vibrant red and black scheme (pictured) on display at last month’s Penrith Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo.
According to Windsor, the latest Silhouette XC boasts a new cable-free wind-up system, one-piece floor and roof and “exclusive slotted furniture to floor fixing system”.
Other standard features include a hot-dipped galvanised chassis, off-road tyres and body kit, gal-protected water tanks, 23 litre hot water system, house battery and Aussie canvas for the walls.
Storage options extend to a front locker, external lockers for two gas bottles and a generator, under-floor storage and a rear tunnel boot.
The inside kitchen includes a stainless steel sink, 90 litre fridge, microwave and four burner cooktop and grille, while there’s the option of an external slide-out BBQ. Other options include trailing arm coil or airbag suspension, solar upgrade and an air-con roof mount.
The Silhouette S421XC model measures 5.53m long and 2.35m wide overall, and has a 2.2m towing height. The $51,990 Penrith display model had a Tare of 1771kg and 200kg ball weight
As well as the traditional slide-out double beds at each end, four-person café dinette and lounge, the new model also sees the return of the slide-out internal kitchen, last seen on the fibreglass-moulded Coromal Silhouette campers of about five years ago.
The new off-road Silhouette camper follows the release of the latest, smooth-sided Windsor Rapid family ‘expander’ model earlier this year.
