Signature launches family-friendly Rugrat

New triple bunk compact hybrid pitched at cash-strapped family caravan buyers

Caravans that can accommodate a growing family in comfort don’t necessarily have to cost a fortune, judging by the latest five-berth imported off-road hybrid from NSW-based Signature Camper Trailers.

Priced competitively from $54,990, the 15ft (4.6m body length) Chinese-made, Rugrat full-height family van is unlike most other compact hybrids on the market in that it can sleep a family of five inside thanks to a queen-size parent’s bed and three full-size bunks.

Along with an aluminium frame and composite body panels, other standard features on the new SCT Rugrat include a 180-degree awning, independent swingarm suspension, 12-inch brakes, a D0-35 coupling and ARK jockey wheel, along with inside and outside kitchens, a 135L interior upright fridge, microwave, audio unit and TV, 200L fresh and 80L grey water capacity, a single 100Ah AGM battery and twin 140W rooftop solar panels, two 4.5kg gas bottles, and a portable gas water heater.

The 2.35m-wide Rugrat also comes with a roof-mounted storage box and access ladder, and a lift-up rear ensuite tent for showering and toileting. Options include a diesel hot water and space heater, lithium batteries, a dust reduction system and a rooftop air-conditioner.

Signature Campers said the new 15ft Rugrat “caters for a gap in the market enabling a more affordable entry price for young families”.

“This family van has been designed to shake things up and offer something truly unique to the market,” the Thornleigh, NSW-based importer said.

Tare weight for the SCT Rugrat is listed at 2060kg with a 640kg payload, and it’s backed by a five-year warranty.

The new Rugrat hybrid along with other Signature campers will be on display at the Queensland Outdoor Adventure Expo at the Toowoomba Showgrounds in Queensland (July 28–30) and the Mid North Coast Caravan, Camping, 4WD, Fish and Boat Show in Wauchope, NSW (Aug 4–6).
