Shower pod for revamped Topaz

Track Trailer expands Topaz pop-top range for 2017 including adding a rear fold-out ensuite
Feeling the hot breath of competition from a range of new pop-top hybrids, Melbourne’s Track Trailer has expanded its Topaz range, showing off the new models at Melbourne Leisurefest.
The model line-up now extends to four, starting with the $86,500 Eyre and book-ended by the $97,350 Silverton, with two versions of the Savannah including different options in between.
Also new on all 2017-model Topaz off-roaders is a drop-down rear shower and external ensuite. Track Trailer has been slow out of the blocks in offering this feature that its main hybrid opposition has been offering for some years, but typical of TT’s thoroughness, its solution is the most elegant and arguably best engineered of the crop.
Using similar drop-down tent technology to that developed originally for the award-winning Tvan back in 1998, the Topaz’s ‘hump’ is cleverly integrated into the pop-top’s design and looks like part of its architecture, rather than a ‘backpack’.
It replaces the van’s now-redundant, non-opening rear window, but with the tent housed in a zippered cover in the top-hinged lit, it takes just seconds (and gravity) to erect. However you still have to exit the Topaz via its rear side entry door to access it.
The Topaz retains its dual-access portable cassette chemical toilet housed in a hatch under the kitchen that allows it to be used by night, yet stored out of sight – and accessed for emptying – by day.
In this respect it's still technically behind Kimberley’s novel waterless eco toilet in its Karavan and Australian Off-Road’s marine macerator toilet in its Quantum Supercamper.
The other major change in the 2017 Topaz line-up is the expanded choice of bed layouts. While a transverse front queen bed remains standard, a north-south queen, a north-south king bed and twin large north-south single beds are optional.
When the north-south options are fitted, the wardrobe is deleted and replaced by a single seat on each side of the Topaz’s pivoting table.
If you choose the north-south queen or twin singles, you will instead get additional storage pods on the side (queen) and between the two beds (single).
