RV Safe wins Best New Safety award

Video-based initiative designed to reduce caravan accidents wins a major gong in 2022 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards

A free, online series of educational videos that provide a 'crash course' in safe caravan towing, has won a major prize in the 2022 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards.

The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia-backed RV Safe initiative that’s primarly targeted at caravan ‘newbies’, picks up the Best New Safety trophy in the 2022 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards, which are designed to recognize and reward advancements in the areas of technology, design, quality and safety throughout the Australian RV industry.

“With more and more people discovering the joys of caravanning every year, this is a timely, no-nonsense approach to pushing key RV safety issues,” caravancampingsales’ editor and Innovation Awards judge Chris Fincham said.

“There’s plenty of free information around about caravan safety but it’s often scattered, confusing or long-winded in getting the important messages across."

“We like how these relatively short, informative videos, along with other add-ons like the RV Safe app, deliver the road safety message in a clear, concise manner, making it easier for inexperienced owners to learn about potential pitfalls and avoid mistakes when towing which can lead to often devastating consequences, such as a caravan roll-over,” he said.

In second position after the judges' votes were tallied was the SpaceX mobile satellite internet service, which Innovation Awards judge Rod Chapman described as “a gamechanger for travellers when it comes to keeping in touch, planning ahead, and getting help in an emergency”.

Fellow judge Michael Browning was also impressed by the SpaceX technology, which is aimed at remote workers and travellers visiting locations where connectivity has been unreliable or unavailable in the past.

“More than ever, we hate to be unconnected, particularly our kids. But Elon Musk’s new mobile satellite array that allows full Outback mobile coverage wherever you travel promises to be a gamechanger for adventurous travellers,” he said.
