Royal Flair Designer Slide-out 2025 Review

Spacious new 19ft 6in couple's model presents as an enticing option for a Big Lap

It's been an exciting year so far for Royal Flair Caravans which, like some other long-standing Aussie outdoor adventure brands like Jayco and ARB, is celebrating the big 'Five-Oh' in 2025.

It kicked off with a bang with a fiery 50th anniversary party at the Epping, Victoria factory in February, followed by the roll-out of fresh 2025 models including a retro-theme budget 'van, and capped off with the recent accolade of attaining industry-leading RV Master status.

Royal Flair is celebrating 50 years of manufacturing in 2025

The celebrations are far from over, with more birthday surprises in store including a feature-packed 'Directors Edition' model, that passionate Royal Flair boss Billy Deralas is currently dreaming up and when built later this year, will pay tribute to his father and Royal Flair founder, the late Peter Deralas senior.

In the meantime, we're taking a closer look at a tempting new layout just added to Royal Flair's Designer Series model range for 2025; a 19ft 6in tandem axle, dirt-road, luxury couple's 'van with front club lounge, slide-out bed and rear ensuite, designed to mimic the lush ambience of an upmarket motorhome but in a towing-friendly 3500kg ATM package...

New slide-out joins Royal Flair range

The 19ft 6in slide-out couple's model is a new body length and layout available in Royal Flair's Designer Series range, which is generally aimed at couples after an upmarket, well-equipped, and full height, semi off-road caravan.

It's also the only slide-out caravan currently available across the Royal Flair range, which spans eight touring and off-road models, with a variety of layouts and formats to choose from, from the entry-level rear-door Micron and full off-grid EcoMate, to the rugged Raptor toy hauler and unique Piazza front-fold deck model.

Royal Flair has re-introduced a slide-out variant to its Melbourne-built range

Measuring 1.86m wide and moving out from the offside wall at the push of a switch, the slide-out boosts exterior floorspace to allow room for an east-west 1.9m x 1.5m queen bed towards the rear of the layout, conveniently located next to the full width ensuite with separate shower and toilet.

Adding to the 'master bedroom' feel is an onside wall storage unit on the onside wall, with a built-in 40in TV that rises up at the push of another button, for superlative bedtime movie or sports game watching. The thick pillowtop innerspring mattress feels pretty comfy too.

Matte blue cabinetry is a winner in our eyes but there are other interior colours to choose from

To prevent any bickering over viewing choices, Royal Flair has added another standard 24in TV, which can be mounted either on an adjustable arm near the entry door to face the lounge, or along the outside wall using connections in the external entertainment locker.

The apartment-style floorplan extends to the front living section, with lots of floorspace to move around the central kitchen and big club lounge/dinette, with plenty of natural light thanks to surrounding windows and a big overhead hatch.

The club lounge also looks like the perfect spot for kicking back or spreading out items for work or play on the multi-adjustable table, although you might need some longer cords to plug in a laptop.

Slide-out allows for more space up front around the kitchen and dining areas

There's also enough room for six to eight people to gather around the table, if it's raining and communal Happy Hours are your thing, while there's also a small audio unit nearby with inside and outside speakers, for pumping out your favourite tunes.

While bench space is at a premium Master chefs should be pretty happy overall with the kitchen set-up , which includes a big sink and mixer tap, four hob cooktop and grille, rangehood, 23L microwave and a 174L compressor fridge with bottom drawer freezer.

Bed slides out to create a nice gap in front of the 40in pop-up TV and wall storage unit

What's missing inside? One glaring omission on the review 'van was a kitchen-fitted water filter, although this could easily be added at the factory for minimal cost.

While there should be sufficient interior storage options for a long-term travelling couple, including some deep overhead cupboards, a big under-bed space, 'his 'n her' robes and above-average ensuite compartments, the slide-out does eliminate some traditional storage spots, like on either side of the bed (although there are some over-bed cupboards).

Lots of storage -- and mirrors! -- in the well equipped rear ensuite

However, there are twin reading lights with built-in USB sockets in both the bed and lounge areas, for charging up phones and tablets, along with double 240V points in both the kitchen and bathroom.

The ensuite is a decent size and includes a solid sliding door, flip-up towel hooks, toilet roll holder, a cassette toilet with opening window above, vanity with bowl sink and mixer tap, 3kg wall-mounted washing machine and a separate shower cubicle with 12V fan hatch.

You could possibly add a concertina screen to block off the entry to the sleeping area

The review van also came with large mirrors above the sink and on the outside of the shower door, so checking for stains and creases from all angles before a big night out at the pub shouldn't be a problem!

Well equipped on the outside too

Step outside and the 19ft 6in Designer slider also shapes up well for a blend of caravan park and off-grid camping.

Some of the Victron battery electricals located next to the three-quarter tunnel boot

Body construction is a combination of timber wall framing, smooth aluminium composite panels and black flat plate, and a honeycomb composite floor, with the 'van riding on a sturdy SupaGal steel chassis with 3in raiser, trailing arm independent coil suspension, off-road coupling, 12in electric drum brakes and 16in alloy wheels with 245/75R16 tyres.

If you want a Royal Flair slide-out caravan, this is it!

Electronic trailer stability control and a dual rear camera are included safety features, while other external kit includes a roll-out awning, drop-down picnic table, and a marine-style slide-out gas bbq.

Up front are two 9kg gas bottles, a drawbar tap, and a good-sized storage toolbox with side jerry holders, finished in the latest 2025 black flat plate that's also used to protect the body sides.

Coil suspension, gal-protected water tanks and some exposed plumbing under the 19ft 6in Designer

There's also some gal-lined storage accessible from the offside, in the tunnel boot space not taken up by the bbq, while the battery and water pump are housed in chassis-mounted checker plate boxes.

For camping off-grid, there's a total of 600W rooftop solar feeding a 200Ah lithium battery with a 2000W inverter and 80A charger (controlled by a Victron touchscreen inside), while the twin 95L fresh water and single 95L grey water tanks also get some added protection on gravel roads.

BMPRO SwayControl is one of a number of standard external features

Should you buy one?

There's a lot to like about Royal Flair's new couple-friendly semi-offroad slide-out 'van. Apart from minor equipment omissions like a water filter, we couldn't find much to fault after a couple of hours poking around the brand-new model.

We're also big fans of the latest '50th anniversary' styling, decor and overall fit-out, which is a strong selling point especially when compared to some of its rivals.

The slide-out adds an element of spaciousness you just don't get with a fixed-wall 19ft 6in caravan, and the 3500kg ATM means you shouldn't have to fork out big dollars for a big American truck or other heavy-duty towing beast.

You don't necessarily need an American truck to safely tow the 3500kg ATM-rated Royal Flair slider

While the $136,170 (drive-away Victoria) price of the review 'van is getting up there for a rugged Aussie-built tourer of this size, you do get a level of fit and finish from the bespoke leatherette upholstery to sturdy cabinetry hardware, that's hard to find in more budget-friendly alternatives.

What's more, Royal Flair is among a small number of Aussie caravan manufacturers that tick many quality assurance boxes, adding further peace of mind for prospective buyers.
