Australian caravan industry stalwart Ron Chapman has been awarded with a prestigious Australia Day medal.
Chapman, who has been CEO of Caravanning Queensland for more than 25 years, was a recipient of a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
Chapman's career in the Australian RV industry has spanned more than 50 years, and included early stints in marketing and PR for different caravan manufacturers, before running dealerships and caravan parks, and being a director of an advertising business.
As well as the long-standing boss of the peak industry body in Queensland, Chapman was manager of the Queensland Caravan and Camping Show for 36 years.
The Australia Day gong is the latest award for Chapman, which includes Eric Hayman Award for Excellence and Richard Davis Award for Outstanding Contribution; both awarded by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia.
He’s also the recipient of Queensland Tourism’s The Marie Watson-Blake Award for Services to Tourism and was recently made a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
Chapman is also an outspoken critic of 'caravanner bashing' that's popular in local tabloid newspapers.
“There are very few people who have done as much for the Australian caravanning and camping industry as Ron, and we appreciate the recommendation from the Council of the Order of Australia in recognising Ron's contribution over many decades to the industry," Caravan Industry Association of Australia CEO Stuart Lamont said.
