Melbourne’s Elite Caravans is offering up to $10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of two caravans stolen a few days before the start of this year’s NSW Caravan, Camping, Holiday & RV Supershow.
The caravans were scheduled to be part of the display at Rosehill Racecourse before they were stolen from a holding yard in the west Sydney suburb of Villawood on April 22.
One of the caravans, a $60,000 Elite Luxury Class 180 (similar to the one pictured) was also the major prize in this year’s Passport Competition, which attracted 30,000 entries from 75,000 people that attended the nine-day event.
According to Elite’s Facebook page: “Thieves smashed into our transport company’s yard with three four-wheel drives on the 22nd April and stole the Luxury Class 180 and our Murray Series 2… Lucky we had spare replicas of these vans here in Victoria to send up for the show”.
Another Elite van, a Dirty Harry off-road model, was left behind, with Elite Caravans' Peter Smith suspecting an “inside job” and the involvement of a crime syndicate.
The fast-growing caravan manufacturer has listed details of both vans on an online stolen caravan register, with a $5000 reward offered for each of the vans stolen.
Both were unregistered at the time, but the Luxury Class 180 can be distinguished by a white aluminium body with gold decals, and a VIN/Chassis number of 6T9T21V97EOAC1079 EC14615.
The Murray Series 2 van has silver gunmetal aluminium cladding, grey checker plate and purple decals, and VIN no: 6T9T21V97EOAC1074 EC14542. It was also fitted with Elite's latest inbuilt generator option located at the rear of the van.
