Retro baby ensuite caravan arrives in Perth

Unique UK-built Barefoot fibreglass monocoque caravans now available Down Under, priced around $100K

A cute egg-shaped caravan conceived by a female lawyer who couldn’t find the stylish caravan of her dreams so decided to build her own, is officially coming to Australia.

The super-lightweight, curvaceous and compact, UK-built Barefoot fibreglass monocoque caravan will be available from both east coast and west coast distributors, including Perth-based Rockingham RV Centre.

UK-built Barefoot van is unlike any other caravan on the market

The brainchild of UK-based lawyer Cathy Chamberlain, the retro-style Barefoot van was three years in the making and is completely round on the outside, with plenty of old-school and upmarket bespoke touches inside and out to set it apart from other mini-caravans on the market.

Chamberlain enlisted a variety of businesses including Watsonia Squire, a company renowned for their iconic sidecars and motorcycles, and motorhome specialist Auto-Sleepers, along with designers from the Automotive and Transport Design course at Coventry University, to help bring her cute, fibreglass creation to production.

Dimensions wise, the Barefoot measures 5080mm long and 2360mm high overall, with a 3780mm long x 1920mm wide body and an internal height of 1870mm.

Two Barefoot variants are available in the UK, the Barefoot Classic and Barefoot Forward, with subtle decor differences between the two including solid oak worktops, Duck Egg Blue feature bathroom walls and Grey Limed Oak flooring in the Classic model, while the Barefoot Forward variant gets solid white acrylic worktops, Tyrolean Blue bathroom walls and Aged Oak flooring.

Stylish interior includes lounge that converts to double bed

Like other British and European micro-caravans, the compact interior squeezes in plenty of big-van features including a kitchenette as well as a lounge/dinette that converts to a double bed, along with an enclosed combination shower and toilet.

Final specifications have not been announced for Australia, but UK-built vans come standard in their home market with an air and hot water heater, 30 litre freshwater tank, a 110AH battery, twin gas burner cooktop and sink with mixer tap, and a 65L compressor fridge and freezer.

Inside kitchen and bathroom included in compact package

Perfect for solo travellers as well as couples with smaller tow vehicles, the Barefoot vans can be towed behind just about any passenger vehicle, with a listed Tare of 960kg and 1200kg ATM.

Pricing is yet to be finalised for Australia but is estimated to be around the $95,000-$110,000 mark, with first deliveries due to arrive at the Perth dealership soon.
