It's not surprising to hear that Don Singleton was "over the moon" when told that he had won one of the richest prizes in Australian 4x4 history.
"I have never won a prize in my whole life," the Jindera, NSW-based retiree explained. "I never thought it would happen to me."
Singleton and his wife were met by Pat Callinan of 4x4 Adventures TV fame at Singleton's local Nissan dealership (pictured), where he was handed the keys to a brand new, white 2009 Nissan ST Patrol valued at just under $60,000.
The tough off-road vehicle was just one of 20 products Singleton received as the major winner of the Ultimate Nissan Adventure competition. He also scored a $25,000 Cub Campers Supermatic Offroad Camper Trailer, as well as a truck-load of 4WD and camping accessories that added up to more than $115,000 in total.
Singleton couldn't believe his luck, not the least considering he could now 'trade up' from his previous camping rig: a humble, two wheel drive vehicle hooked up to a box trailer with a tent on top.
"The night he won, he didn't sleep a wink and kept going to the mirror to pinch himself to prove he wasn't dreaming," continued Don's wife.
Singleton said at the handover that he had already started making plans to head up north to the Gulf with some friends. He's also made himself a list of gear and accessories to grab with his $10,000 ARB voucher.
More than 292,000 people entered the Ultimate 4x4 competion, which was run in conjunction with Carsales.com.au, Pat Callinan's 4x4 Adventures and Nissan.
Callinan said the "massive response" to the Ultimate Nissan Adventure Giveaway made it one of the most successful ever in the history of the Australian 4x4 industry.
"We've decided to make our next competition even bigger and better, so keep an eye out for details on the show and the 4x4 Adventures website," Callinan said.
