Redarc rolls out smart tech for caravans

Aussie electronics specialist develops new smart technology option for caravans and campers

South Australian electronics powerhouse Redarc is the latest company to develop digital-switching ‘smart’ technology for the RV market.

Redarc, already a major supplier of battery power-related electronic products to the Australian RV manufacturing industry, has been drip-feeding information about its new Total Vehicle Management System (TVMS) over the past two months, including the recent release of a teaser video...

Not unlike similar systems already available on the market from the likes of Finscan, BMPRO (Jayco’s J-HUB) and Swift caravans, Redarc’s new RedVision promises finger-tip control from the comfort of your camp chair or driver's seat of a host of on-board RV appliances including lights, powered entry steps, inverters, water pumps, TVs and fridges.

Using either an in-vehicle touchscreen display or IOS or Android app on a smart phone or tablet, it will also monitor water levels and temperatures, along with battery power consumption (but only if a Redarc Manager battery management system is also fitted).

All in the palm of your hands

As well allowing the control of multiple devices automatically, Redarc says the digital system will also act as a ‘master switch’. For example, lights and all other loads except the fridge can be turned off, with the press of a button. Or the steps in a caravan can retract and loads turned off, when the vehicle's ignition is turned on.

Redarc also promises easy installation “thanks to its simple connections and CAN Architecture, which requires less wiring, crimping and fusing of components".

Like all Redarc products, the RedVision system has been subject to extensive research, development and durability testing, including being trialled over 18 months on a Patriot X1 camper.

Redarc is hoping it will be  adopted by other local RV manufacturers and available on a range of caravans, campers and motorhomes later this year, with the possibility of aftermarket and export versions introduced at a later date.

Pricing and further details should be announced around mid-2018.
