Despite being much more expensive than traditional deep-cycle batteries, lithium-ion batteries are an increasingly popular option for RV travellers who desire the most efficient, longest lasting and also the lightest 12V power system for ‘off grid’ camping.
To cater for increasing demand, South Australia’s Redarc Electronics has released a range of battery chargers designed specifically for the latest Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFeP04) batteries that feature an inbuilt battery management system with under and over voltage protection and cell balancing functions, for enhanced safety.
The new 40 amp LFP1240 and 25 amp LFP1225 battery chargers were adapted from Redarc’s existing in-vehicle DC-DC battery chargers, and developed in conjunction with leading battery companies including Revolution Power Australia. They're suitable for both 12V and 24V vehicles.
The new chargers come with a built-in fault protection system and can handle inputs from nine to 32 volts, while a unique two stage charging profile is designed to ensure the LiFePO4 batteries achieve and maintain an optimal charge, regardless of their size.
They also come with a MPPT solar regulator so the auxiliary battery can be charged from the vehicle charging system as well as from solar panels.
According to Redarc the new chargers were designed and manufactured in Australia and have been independently tested and verified.
Both units come with a two year warranty and have RRP of $906.27 on the Redarc website.
