The organiser of next month’s Queensland Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow has pulled out all stops to mark the 50 year milestone of the annual event, including putting together one of the biggest give-away prizes in Australian caravan show history.
Visitors to this year's Brisbane Supershow have the chance to win a unique 50th anniversary Cub camper trailer and a Volkswagen V6 Amarok ute. There will also be 49 runners-up prizes, with a combined value of more than $100,000.
NSW's Cub Campers, along with Leyland brother Mal, will also be celebrating significant milestones at the popular Supershow, which had humble beginnings in 1968.
“The first two shows were very basic and were held on the lower carpark of Toombul Shopping Town, now known as Toombul Shopping Centre, with an estimated attendance of 2000-3,00 show-goers over three days,” recalled Caravanning Queensland CEO, Ron Chapman, whose career in the caravan industry began even earlier in 1966 when he got a job as the Public Relations Officer of the Chesney Caravan Group
“Over the past 50 years the Supershow has grown in popularity with more exhibitors getting involved and more consumers choosing to invest in caravan and camping holidays,” the industry veteran said.
Cheap tickets
To encourage a big turn-up, Caravanning Queensland has slashed the entry price for this year’s show by half (down to $10 for adults and $7.50 concession). They're also hoping to entice a few Lego fans through the gates by promising a display of the world’s biggest caravan made out of Lego bricks, set to be unveiled for the first time at the show.
The Queensland Supershow has a reputation for exciting new-model reveals, and this year should be no exception with long-standing Kedron Caravans set to unveil a monster triple-axle custom van as part of a 15-strong caravan display.
Kedron, which is almost a household name thanks to the Top Gear-style Gall Boys videos, is promising to debut some new features on their latest 26ft off-road caravan including a new custom suspension system.
Meanwhile, Explorer Motorhomes should also have on display another six-wheeled show-stopper in the form of its latest Toyota Hilux-based Discovery, which it claims is the first six wheel, and 6x6 motorhome built in Australia.
New products in the Accessories aisle will include a trick new Australian designed anti-theft device from Wuli, that incorporates a wheel lock and alarm that’s activated wirelessly.
“Having spent 50 years in the industry, each year I see something new and exciting that just makes holidaying so much easier,” Chapman said.
Among the free daily seminars, Eddie Springer from Springers Solar will explain how to make money from solar power while on the road.
Show-goers who purchase a pre-paid ticket are eligible for a free train ride to the show as well as receiving a bonus entry to the competition. However, show rules stipulate they won’t be let in with bare feet or if accompanied by a dog…
