Pre-holiday inspection encouraged
A free, do-it-yourself caravan checklist designed to uncover any safety issues before hitting the road is now availableWith peak season approaching, the Caravan Council of Australia (CCA) is encouraging all 'vanners to conduct a pre-holiday caravan inspection.
The recently-established consumer advocacy group has compiled a comprehensive checklist covering all items that it believes should be properly inspected and serviced before hitching up and hitting the road.
Covering off important things like ratings and masses, brakes, tyres, caravan and tow vehicle wiring, couplings, safety chains, suspension and gas, the checklist is designed to ensure a caravan or camper trailer is in good and safe condition as well as fully legal and compliant.
“If you are not technically qualified and experienced, you should have an accredited mechanic or caravan specialist inspect the vehicle, and make any necessary adjustments or replacements,” warns the CCA’s Colin Young.
“Gas and electrical inspections and servicing must only be conducted by licensed gas-fitters and electricians.
“If you have any questions at all about the safety of your 'van or camper-trailer, always obtain professional advice from a recognised expert in the particular field,” he says.
