Melbourne's The Urban Group has ripped the covers off its latest Platinum RV off-road composite caravan range, on The Touring Hub stand at the 2025 Victorian Caravan & Camping Supershow.
A year and a half in the making, Urban says the new Platinum RV six-layout range with its unique composite 'hybrid frame' construction overcomes some of the pitfalls of building a full composite caravan designed for serious off-road use.
Platinum RV's new hybrid sandwich panel construction utilises a traditional fibreglass sandwich panel, but with a mix of foam core and 900-density poly board. The unique "internal PVC blocking" in the 29mm thick side walls allows internal furniture to be securely fixed in place using metal screws.
Urban says another advantage is that the sandwich panel roof can be joined and screwed to the side walls without resulting in any undesirable buckling. There's also a one-piece honeycomb floor, while the body joins are sealed using aluminium L-channels with capping.
"We're going to change the way of making composite vans," The Urban Group's managing director Steve Trajcevski declared at the official unveiling.
"We're using a composite sandwich panel but inside we're using a composite polytech frame with 900 hardness, so all fixing points are fixed to a frame."
Sitting just below Urban's range of TIG-welded aluminium framed Outback caravans, the new Platinum RV vans come well equipped as standard with Terraglide coil suspension, General Grabber all-terrain tyres and the latest Victron 24V power system.
The two Supershow display models included a Platinum CXR Series 17ft 6in single axle couples' model with 2658kg Tare and 3000kg ATM, and a 20ft 6in CXR tandem axle couple's van with 3165kg Tare and 4200kg ATM.
The loaded-up 20ft 6in CXR was priced at $163,990, and came with a classy couple's layout including an extra-large rear ensuite, along with other desirable features like a 300Ah lithium battery system with 5000W inverter and 840W rooftop solar, 220L water storage and a big 274L Thetford fridge.
As well as the unique 'timber-free' construction, the new Platinum CXR vans stand out with an eye-catching hexagon pattern splashed across bright red external cut-outs and decals as well as imprinted on the leatherette upholstery inside, while familiar Urban touches include an in-house-built X-Treme chassis and Urban-branded custom front toolbox and rear platform bar.
Based in Epping, Victoria, The Urban Group also encompasses the new entry-level Vivid range which also boasts a 'rot-free' construction of fibreglass and polyurethane, CNC-cut wall frames, together with an aluminium and fibreglass roof (you can check them out here.)
A number of 2025 Platinum RV caravans are also listed for sale on caravancampingsales.
