Period-perfect Kombi camper on the block

Having been subject to full bare-metal restoration by the previous owner about five years ago, Shannons says the yellow and white, 1976 Volkswagen T2 Kombi campervan is in great nick, including a freshly overhauled 2.0-litre motor mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a working pop-top.
The freshly redone interior boasts nicely integrated modern front seats, a working stove and sink, and seats that convert to a double bed, along with period touches like a luggage rack equipped with a period suitcase.
According to Shannons, the eye-catching T2 Kombi has mostly been used for week-end runs in recent times with 3280kms on the clock since the resto. A vehicle report gives it 3.5 stars out of five, summing it up as "a great looking Kombi requiring some minor repairs".
"Once the preserve of hippies looking for a mobile house in camper configuration or just for cheap transport, the Kombi now enjoys a cult following around the world and as values of early 'split window' models continue to skyrocket, these early T2 versions look like something of a bargain," Shannons says in the online blurb.
Shannons is taking bids for its Spring Timed Online Auction from August 31 to September 7, and with a guiding price range of $38,000-$48,000 expects the Sydney-based vehicle to fetch a lot more than the $24,000 paid for an unrestored '76 T2 Kombi last year.
