Perfect podcasts for the Big Lap

Six podcasts to get you through the long drive to your next campsite

In 2019, it seems as though all of your favourite journalists, comedians, or celebs have a podcast, and with many of them freely available there are some great options for filling in time during those all-day drives to the next campsite...

Here's a list to get you through a long stint behind the wheel. All of these can be found wherever you get your podcasts from.

ABC listen app

pod 1

Okay so we'restarting off by cheating slightly. While not technically a podcast, the entire app itself is filled with episodes and podcasts of everything from the latest books, to what’s happening in the world right now.

Of course, you can listen to all your favourite ABC stations, but there’s much more to this app than radio.

The Bookshelf is for book lovers looking for their next read, The People Vs, for those wanting an informed debate about anything and everything society is facing. Or All In The Mind, a weekly podcast which delves into everything about the mental universe, from the mind, brain, and behaviours. There’s also a number of music podcasts and programs to choose from, and entire podcasts that deal with the latest in news and current affairs.

All of these are of varying lengths as well, so there’s a podcast available for every drive time imaginable!

My Dad Wrote A Porno

pod 2

Think about the most uncomfortable thing you could ever imagine your parents writing, then times it by 10…. and I still don’t think you’ve reached the level of horror Jamie Morton has when reading an erotic novel, Belinda Blinked, written by none other than his own father!

The hit English podcast hosted by Jamie, revolves around him reading the books to his friends James Cooper, and Alice Levine, and will have you spitting out your McCafe coffee with laughter while listening on the Stuart Highway.

There’s also shorter footnote podcasts to get your My Dad Wrote A… fix in between chapters of the book, and also for when you have a shorter than usual drive.

Today in Focus / The Daily

pod 3

For news junkies everywhere, Today in Focus is a daily podcast produced by The Guardian, to take you behind the headlines for a deeper understanding of the news. With episodes running up to half an hour, it’s the perfect podcast to help bring you across what’s making news. There’s also a dedicated podcast on Briexit, so if you’re still trying to wrap your head around that mess, The Guardian has you covered.

Meanwhile, The Daily is a similar weekday news podcast by The New York Times, hosted by NYT journalist Michael Barbaro, with every episode revolved around the reports of the day. With episodes ranging between 20-30 minutes, it’s a perfect way to catch up on some of the days big topics from around the world, and get informed.

Well this podcast is for you. Join hosts Josh and Chuck as they get you across every topic imaginable. If you’ve ever wanted to be the Happy Hour know-it-all, then this podcast is definitely for you. Episodes run up to an hour.

She’s On The Money

pod 5

Why not use your valuable between-caravan-park-time, getting money savvy, and learn how to get on top of your finances?

Millennial money expert Victoria Devine shares her tips to help you gain freedom when it comes to your cash. From AfterPay to tax time, investments, savings, and even how to find the money to get married, this podcast is for those who want to stretch their travel dollars...

Casefile

pod 6

With true crime currently in vogue, Casefile has become one of Australia’s favourite go-to podcasts when it comes to wanting to delve deeper into crimes, with just pure straight fact.
