RVM Australia has introduced a new payload calculator for its members and their dealers to help take the mystery out of payload calculations.
The new Load Carrying Capacity Calculator enables sales people to work out exactly how much capacity their customers need in their new vans.
RVM Australia CEO David Duncan said the calculator would enable people to ensure their new van could genuinely carry all their gear.
“Our calculator makes it easy to tote up how much you plan to carry, including any accessories not fitted at the factory,” he said.
“It’s all too easy for a ‘best guess’ to be less than the total actual load, which can compromise both safety and legality, and our new calculator assists to overcome this problem.
“For example, for a couple in a dual axle van of six-plus metres, with luggage, TV, solar panels and 190 litres of water, the payload comes out just over 500 kg – rather more than they might expect.
“Dealers and customers can work out the load they need – customers know what they want, and dealers know what things weigh – and then specify the van accordingly.”
RVM Australia is the peak body for Australia’s RV manufacturing industry and currently has around 80, mostly Melbourne-based caravan manufacturers, as members.
