Patriot Campers launches $225,0000 hybrid pop-top

Queensland manufacturer dips toe in premium caravan market with new 6.8m long, five-berth ST7 Supertourer range-topper

Queensland's Patriot Campers has moved even further upmarket in the premium off-road trailerable market, with the release of a new 6.8m long (overall), 3500kg ATM, dual-axle hybrid pop-top family and couple's off-grid camper.

Priced from $224,900, or US$181,000 in the 'States where the new Aussie-built premium hybrid will also be sold, the Patriot ST7 Supertourer is essentially a bigger, more family-friendly, tandem-axle version of the 5.2m long ST5 Supertourer that Patriot released in late 2024, and followed up with the even flashier Finke Edition.

Teaser video provides some details

Patriot hasn't released full details on its new range-topper yet, but says the dual-axle desert dueler has a targeted Tare of 2500kg and 3500kg ATM, and measures 2.2m wide, with a travel height of 2.3m and a camping height of 2.9m.

The 'official reveal' video suggests that it will be built as tough and with as much attention to detail as the hundreds of other Patriot campers that have rolled out from the Gold Coast factory over the past 12 years...

The ST7 Supertourer is the first Patriot to get full Garmin connectivity, with touchscreen control from the car or campsite of the auto pop-top roof and rear entry hatch, as well as Patriot's trick Trinamic airbag suspension which includes horizon levelling as well as disc brake integration.

It's also highly off-grid capable, with a standard 920Ah lithium battery system with 3000W inverter and 1200W rooftop solar, and centralised access to the Victron electricals in a side wall locker.

While porthole style side windows allow extra space for external storage, including a deep rear locker with slide-out tray. Patriot is spruiking 2600L storage in total, along with 300L fresh water and 50L grey water capacity.

The ST7 Supertourer's advanced climate control system also includes ''underbelly heating'' presumably targeted at overseas buyers, with what looks like heated water tanks to prevent freezing during sub-zero camping.

Caravan pop-top style interior

Meanwhile, the interior layout appears to be the most caravan-like yet from Patriot, with a front north-south queen bed, kitchen galley, combination shower with 'dry' composting toilet, and cafe-style dinette, and a decent walkway through the middle to go with sufficient headroom thanks to the pop-top roof.

The video also shows glimpses of a trick adjustable dinette table, small fridge, bowl sink with mixer tap and lots of bench space for cooking and kitchen prep. Not to mention a fold-up bunk bed over the dinette, that together with the 2030mm × 1520mm innerspring mattress can turn the camper into a five-berth layout.

Internal storage extends to under-seat bins, a slide-out pantry, pot drawers and towel racks, and Patriot says there's floor mounted climate control (presumably a diesel heater). There's also vision of a protected roof attachment that suggests either the availability of a rooftop air conditioner or dust suppression system.

There also appears to be the option to mount a wall-mounted washing machine in the front section normally reserved for a swing-out BBQ, while the ST7 Supertourer also gets a big Patriot X1-style external pull-out kitchen including slide-out fridge, and a 'wine rack' along the rear wall.

New territory for Patriot

Patriot boasts some of the highest Australian-made content of any RVs built in this country, and therefore has some of the steepest local manufacturing costs. So we're not sure if that's reflected in the choice of soundtrack for the launch video: Sia's 'Alive', an emotive ballad that covers a range of themes including emotional resilience, empowerment and survival.

The video also features all three generations of the Patriot family business, who have all starred over the years in the manufacturer's popular Youtube videos.

"A 7.0m Patriot is something we said we’d never do. But maybe now the time’s right. And we’re definitely ready for it," the company says on its website.
