Queensland's Patriot Campers has taken its adrenaline-charged off-road adventures to a new level, rolling out a new big buck, off-road trophy truck that it plans to race in the 2021 Australian Off Road Racing Championship.
The US-built, high-performance off-road racing buggy runs under the 6100 Class Trophy Truck rules, and features a GM LS-based 6.0-litre V8 engine putting out around 600hp (approx. 450kW), mated to an Albins six-speed sequential gearbox.
To help smooth out the big bumps at speeds up to 200km/h, the super-ute's trick trailing arm suspension features Kings 4.0 triple bypass shocks all round, and delivers up to 600m travel up front and 950mm of travel at the rear.
A custom hand-welded chrome-moly frame helps keep the weight down on the two wheel-drive machine, while a Tube Works rear diff with a 9.5in centre drives the big 40in tyres.
“What these things are designed to do is hit the roughest terrain at the highest speeds possible,” ?said Patriot Campers' boss and driver of the trophy truck, Justin Montesalvo, who has already raced the high-flying truck in a few local events this year including the Don River Dash 300 in northern Queensland.
In what is a family affair, Montesalvo's brother Jamie is co-driver, while Justin's two 16-year old sons Ashton and Christian will now take the reins of Patriot's smaller, side-by-side Polaris RZR four-wheel drive off-road racer.
