Paradise Motor Homes closes down

Gold Coast manufacturer of top-end motorhomes ceases trading
UPDATE: Paradise Motor Homes is back in business. Click here for full details...
Gold Coast prestige motorhome manufacturer Paradise Motor Homes has been placed into administration, with receivers appointed earlier this month at the request of creditors.
The Gold Coast Bulletin has reported that Paradise’s sales yard and factory was closed and cleared of stock on the week-end, while calls to the office phone number are currently being answered with a recorded message.
The family run business was started in 2002 by Colin MacLean, with his son Ben employed as general manager. Focusing on the top end of the motorhome market, the award-winning manufacturer offered five models ranging in price from $169,000 for its entry-level, Mercedes-Benz based Oasis campervan to the range-topping Iveco-based Independence model, priced from $504,000.
The niche builder had a reputation for excellent build quality and innovative features, like keyless entry and alarm and dual air-conditioning and ducted heating, as well as marketing-leading safety features and warranty programs.
In 2013, Ben MacLean told Caravancampingsales the company was building around 80 motorhomes a year, and in 2015 a sales person said it had strong orders for a new range of motorhomes based on the latest, rear drive Iveco Daily.
Paradise made an unsuccessful move into caravan production in 2013, after launching the $120,000 Castaway caravan, and more recently made attempts to introduce more affordable models like a Fiat Ducato-based Freetime motorhome.
In 2012 Paradise moved its headquarters from Arundel to a bigger 3155sq m site in Biggera Waters which included a factory, office and sales yard. The site was previously occupied by Swagman Motorhomes, another top-end motorhome manufacturer that went bust but has since risen from the ashes.
The news appears to have left at least one Paradise customer in the lurch. Speaking on ABC radio today he said he had paid 75 per cent of the cost of a $350,000 motorhome that had been under construction but not yet delivered.
