Gold Coast-based Paradise Motorhomes is entering the increasingly competitive, $150,000-plus off-road caravan market, with the release of an impressive new full-height, full-composite, heavyweight luxury all-terrain caravan at the Let’s Go Brisbane Caravan & Outdoor Sale.
Taking on cross-town, premium off-road caravan specialists including Kedron, Bushtracker, Zone RV and Sunland, the new Paradise Pinnacle tandem-axle van is currently only available in two 6700mm/22ft (body length) by 2490mm (body width) family-friendly versions: the 3500kg ATM-rated Pinnacle XB22 and 4500kg ATM-rated Pinnacle XB22HD, both with a similar five-berth layout including queen north-south bed, triple bunks, central kitchen, L-shaped lounge/dinette and separate shower and toilet.
Paradise Motorhomes' Clint Ward said the all-new premium off-road caravan is built to the same high-level build quality and attention-to-detail as the Paradise motorhomes and campervans, including fully insulated Stryromax fibreglass sandwich panel construction, one-piece Thermashield coated curved roof and Holypan composite floor, with an automotive-style two-pack paint exterior finish with U-pol Raptor protection, integrated water-resistant and carpeted, below-floor storage lockers and dovetailed interlocking interior cabinetry with auto-locking electro-magnetic drawer catches.
"We're trying to make them like our motorhomes, and the caravans are built on-site (at Paradise' Gold Coast factory) like all our motorhomes," Ward said.
Both 3.16m high variants boast a long list of standard features, with the six-inch galvanised chassis on the Pinnacle XB22 riding on Cruisemaster ATX coil suspension while the pricier HD version gets the height-adjustable ATX airbag suspension.
Other standard features on the Pinnacle XB22 include a Dometic 188 litre compressor fridge/freezer, four-burner cooktop/grille and convection oven, C-Zone digital touchscreen, Carefree electric awning and electric entry step, 200 litres fresh water and 50 litres grey water capacity, Truma hot water and roof-top air-conditioner, a 32in Smart TV, leather lounge and bedhead, and a 200Ah Enerdrive lithium battery system which includes a 2000 inverter and 360W rooftop solar panels.
The Pinnacle XB22 is priced at $167,500 drive-away, compared to $197,500 drive-away for the top-spec XB22HD, which gets a number of additional features apart from airbags including electric corner stabilizers, a bigger 216L compressor fridge, roof-mounted brush rails and underbody bash plates, extra fresh and grey water tanks, a gas space heater, hot/cold external shower, satellite TV, external kitchen and a bigger capacity 400Ah lithium battery set-up.
While still focussing on high-end motorhomes, the off-road Pinnacle caravan is part of a new push by Paradise to break into new market niches, which include a stylish European-built teardrop camper and a new range of Australian-built Volkswagen Transporter-based campervans.
While the Paradise Pinnacle is new from the ground up, it's not the first time in its 18 year history that Queensland's Paradise has had a crack at selling top-end caravans, with the previous owners releasing the short-lived, $120,000, 24ft Castaway in 2013.
