OzTent rolls out trick new camping gear

New five-star rooftop models and lightweight swag from 30-second tent originator

OzTent has come a long way since introducing the original '30 second tent', with an ever-expanding catalogue of innovative camping gear and international expansion among its many exploits, more than 30 years on...

Now, after having a crack at a motorised rooftop tent a few years back, OzTent has re-entered the crowded roof-top tent market with a couple of new models boasting some trick lighting features among other highlights.

OzTent says its new Apex models take roof tents "to the next level", with in-built memory and mood lighting, adjustable reading lights and ventilation fans, not to mention a swish interior fit-out including tablet holders and storage pockets.

Two styles are available: the smaller Apex RT-C-1400 with front-raising roof, and the Apex RT-P-1600 which has corner raisers to produce more interior headroom, similar to the James Baroud hard lid model.

On both Apex models campers can use either a Apex Command Centre module or a remote control unit, to program a number of set and adjustable modes for the internal and external lighting.

These include a Sleep mode where motion sensors automatically flick on the lights when getting up to go to the toilet, or when detecting a night-time intruder. There's also a flashing Safety mode, that could also be used to attract the kids' attention at dinner time.

Adding to its swag range, Oztent has also released a new lightweight compact Cubbie swag aimed at solo travellers looking for the convenience of a portable bed-roll but with modern features.

Made from Oztent’s new durable light-diffusing CT-Tex fabric, the new CS-1 King Single Swag features a front vestibule with floor extension and five internal storage pockets. It also includes a 40mm replaceable mattress, with the entire 5.6kg package neatly folding up to fit inside an oversized zippered carry bag.

The king-size Cubbie Swag is priced at $599, while the new Apex rooftop tents retail for between $5000-$6000. See the OzTent website for full details.
