Oz Star Caravans hit the show circuit

New cut-price caravan brand offering five semi-offroad models from $45,000

Another new wallet-friendly range of imported caravans has arrived on Australian shores in the form of Oz Star Caravans, with the Helensburgh NSW-based enterprise displaying many of its new five-model range of full height, single and tandem-axle caravans with semi off-road capability at this week's 2024 NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow.

Oz Star has kicked off with three, two-berth Couples Series, in 11ft, 15ft and 20ft body lengths, while the four-berth Family Series are offered in 15ft and 20ft lengths.

The caravan bodies are imported from China and fitted to locally assembled chassis.

The focus of the Oz Star range would appear to be value for money, with all from the $45,000 drive-away 11ft Couples Series to the $69,000 20ft Family Series offering ample standard fittings. These include a grey water tank, dual front storage boxes, electric hot water system, and a two-watt diesel heater with 10L tank.

Electrical equipment in each van includes a Dometic reverse-cycle air-conditioner, 200Ah gel battery, 3000watt inverter, 410watts of solar panels, external LED front light bar, internal/external marine audio system, a smart phone compatible audio and video system and wireless reverse camera.

The kitchens featured a stainless steel black sink including matte black fittings, while cupboards and drawer systems include double-sided acrylic doors.

The Oz Star vans also feature a galvanised hot-dipped chassis, marine-grade composite clad/aluminium frame body with checker plate aluminium side skirting and independent suspension, an off-road 50mm ball coupling, 12-inch electric drum brakes and 16-inch alloy wheels shod with mud-terrain tyres.

Inside each is treated to a high-density foam mattress, leatherette seating, 12volt range hood, double-glazed windows with block-out and mesh blinds and a security two-piece meshed entry door.

The $45,000 (drive-away) 11ft two-berth Couples Series, with a 2010kg Tare, 2500kg ATM and 250kg towball mass, manages to fit in an east-west queen size bed inside its compact layout by having it drop-down electrically over the U-shaped dinette at the rear, with a front shower/toilet combination and kitchen also part of the cosy fit-out.

There’s an internal two-burner gas stove, 37-litre compressor fridge-freezer, 20L microwave, slide-out external kitchen and a two metre-wide awning, along with 120L fresh water and 75L grey water capacity, an external shower, and two 4.5kg gas bottles.

The $59,000 (drive-away) 15ft two-berth Couples Series weighs 2560kg Tare, with an ATM of 3000kg and 150kg towball download. It has a rear slide-out north-south king-size bed, centre dinette and kitchen, while up the front is a bench with storage above and below as well as a combined shower/toilet ensuite.

The 15ft model offers all the features of the 11ft model but has a bigger king size bed and 140L compressor fridge freezer, along with a Thetford cooktop, fan-forced oven and grill, a three-metre awning and capacity for 200 litres of fresh water and 100 litres of grey water.

The $59,000 (drive-away) 15ft four-berth Family Series shares the same weights, external measurements and features as its Couples Series equivalent, with only layout varying slightly. Up front, the ensuite is smaller and instead of the front bench/storage there are two bunk beds.

Meanwhile, the $69,000 (drive-away) 20ft tandem-axle Couples Series has a 3060kg Tare, 3500kg ATM and 270kg tow ball download, with a more traditional layout of front north-south queen bed, centre kitchen and cafe dinette followed by an ensuite with separate shower. The 20 footer also gets a 4.6m electric roll-out external awning.

The 20ft Family Series, also $69,000 drive-away, is pretty much the same as the 20ft Couples Series, except that the rear layout incorporates a smaller ensuite (although still with separate shower cubicle) and there are twin bunks, with the option for three.

All Oz Star models come with 12 months registration included in the price, and a relatively short 12 months' warranty. The company has representation in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne, with an outlet in Adelaide expected soon.
