One of the downsides of a fixed-roof caravan is the inability to 'let the outside in', or feel like your camping among nature while relaxing inside, not largely shielded from it. Another negative is the sheer bulk of many modern caravans; a major cause of traumatic towing.
But help is at hand, with On The Move Caravans providing a cure for caravan claustrophobia with a new compact 15ft touring model, fitted with an extra-large offside hatch/window. and with an ATM of just over two tonnes for stress free towing.
On display at the 2025 Victorian Caravan Supershow, the new OTM Galaxy 4.8 is built on a Desertmaster automotive chassis, with torsion suspension and a 50mm ball coupling.
The food truck-style, super-sized hatch-window on the offside wall opens in two ways; either by pushing out the smaller built-in, screened caravan window, or if the bugs aren't biting, lifting the full strut-assisted cover to open up an expansive and breezy viewing area, or outside servery, from the cafe dinette seats.
A unique layout splits the front section between a north south double bed in one corner and a combination shower toilet with drop-down wash basin in the other.
There's also a four-person dinette that converts to another bed, and a kitchenette with sink and mixer tap and twin hob induction cooktop, up front close to the entry door.
Considering the size of the van there's quite a lot of storage available both inside and out, with a roll-out awning, twin lockers and a picnic table on the onside external wall, and quite a few cupboards, drawers and overhead lockers throughout the layout, plus a wardrobe.
Like other imported On The Move vans, the Galaxy 4.8 features one-piece composite panels for the roof, walls and floor, while other listed features include a 185L compressor fridge, reverse camera, a ducted air-conditioner, and 100L fresh water storage.
The display model had a plated Tare of 1535kg, with a 98kg unloaded ball weight and 2200kg ATM.
The Galaxy 4.8 is priced to please at $54,990 drive-away, and joins the more off-road oriented Crossfire 4.7 in OTM's eye-catching compact caravan range.
"We're about the size of a camper trailer but with an internal shower and toilet, and minimal set up," said OTM CEO Robin Harris about the new lightweight 15ft tourer.
