The mirror body assembly is a nicely finished strong ABS plastic with steel arm and chromium insert mirror arm. It has plastic-capped, steel-thread wing nuts to tighten the adjustment collars, and a rubberised strap with a lower-door fitting clip.
The Torino is very easy to use, taking no more than five minutes to fit and adjust from unpacking to driving away. The mirror extends up to 450mm, but on our 200 Series LandCruiser test vehicle it wasn't necessary to extend the mirror much further out than the large, standard vehicle mirrors.
The mirror clips into the window sill, and the rubberised strap (fitted with a protective layer to protect the paintwork) hooks onto the bottom of the door. The main body of the assembly is then held in place on the door skin with two soft rubber foam pads. The large wing nuts are easy to tension even for hands that are becoming arthritic, like mine. Tensioning is done via a ratchet mechanism that allows the lower rubberised section to stretch, tensioning the whole unit.
Neat features include being able to fold in the mirrors, while the design itself provides a bit of security in that the mirrors cannot be removed with the doors closed.
The ability to see almost immediately behind a 20ft caravan is a definite plus. There's a small amount of movement of the mirrors at 100km/h, but they're still clear enough to see what's going on behind.
All in all, the Torinos are a sound investment and certainly worth the $115 (each) to improve towing safety.
