Old Viscount gets classy makeover
TV celebs slap paint and stylish finishes on vintage van projectA couple of stars of the small screen, and self-confessed ‘caravan geeks’ have teamed up with a paint company to produce a stylish makeover of a 1960s Viscount caravan.
Former contestants on TV reality show The Block and hosts of ‘Ready, Set, Reno’, Michael and Carlene Duffy, used various White Knight paints to give their retro van makeover a cottage-like but modern feel.
Nicknamed Vonnie, the old Viscount was stripped inside and out, before rust guard paint was applied on the outside, followed by a special laminate paint for the old cabinetry and walls.
It’s the second vintage van reno tackled by the celebrity couple, having previously given a 1950s Millard van a beach-themed makeover before nicknaming it Millie.
“Unlike Millie, where we nearly all but gutted the interior (leaving only dining area and wardrobe), with Vonnie we reworked what was there, leaving 85% of the cabinetry and simply painting inside and out using the White Knight speciality paint range,” the couple said on their home decorating website.
Other unique touches included replacing the benches with a marble-look laminate and a marble mosaic tile on the table top. VJ panelling custom made from MDF was added on the ceiling while the floor got a layer of Decorug vinyl plank covering.
The pastel-dominated interior colour palette was chosen as a representation of “where the coast meets the Aussie bush/rainforest.”
Michael and Carlene are not the only TV ‘Blockheads’ to have cashed in on the vintage van craze, with ‘Alisa and Lysandra’ teaming up with Elite Caravans to produce some bespoke interior colour options for the Victorian manufacturer’s range.
